Analytics in Action: Accelerating Investigations in Argentina

BriefCam is translating video into impact with the Center of Operations and Monitoring (COM) in General Pueyrredon, Argentina, by increasing the speed and accuracy of their forensic video analysis.

Just last week the COM leveraged BriefCam to track and find a group of people responsible for an armed robbery of a car dealership. Operators entered in vehicle specifications that were gathered early in the investigation and reconstructed the route the vehicle had taken when fleeing the scene. This critical evidence allowed law enforcement teams to track the perpetrators across municipal cameras to understand their escape route and determine their exact location. Upon pinpointing the hideout, collaborative teams were able to apprehend the suspects and seize cell phones, ammunition, and firearms to bring a swift close to the case.

Additionally, in mid-June, the Secretary of Security of the Municipality of General Pueyrredon collaborated with the police of the province of Buenos Aires to close a case of credit card theft and fraud. The thief, having stolen both cash and credit cards from a woman visiting a rehabilitation center, later made purchases amounting to approximately 230,000 Pesos. The victim informed the police of the details of the crime and subsequent purchases which were then verified by the stores in which the purchases were made. Armed with this data, the Operations and Monitoring Center (COM) obtained control of delivery vehicles and used BriefCam to track the vehicle’s delivery route from the commercial area to the delivery address. As a result, the suspect was apprehended, and a criminal case was filed, all within an hour of notifying the police.

BriefCam is a new addition to the patent reader software implemented by General Pueyrredon in 2022 to speed up forensic vehicle search in the city. The advantages that BriefCam brings to the city include:

  • Reduction of investigative work time
  • Simultaneous, cross-camera analysis
  • Faster time-to-target
  • Improved accuracy of forensic video review

The software is already installed for approximately 50 cameras of the COM that were strategically selected to complement their other technological systems. However, with more than 400 private neighborhood cameras added last year, that already function as part of the municipal system, the city intends to expand the reach and subsequent impact of BriefCam to further enhance their investigative capabilities and increase municipal safety.
